Introduction​

I’ve tested a lot of electric scooters over the past couple of years, and honestly, many of them feel designed purely for smooth city pavements and short commutes. The iScooter iX4 clearly isn’t trying to be one of those scooters. From the moment I unfolded it, the chunky tyres, aggressive suspension and oversized frame made it obvious this thing was built for rougher riding.

I spent about a week using the iX4 across different terrain — city roads, gravel paths, wet pavements, steep hills and even a few woodland trails. What surprised me most was how capable it felt off-road without becoming completely unusable in everyday commuting.

It’s not a lightweight scooter, and it definitely has a few rough edges, but overall I had more fun riding the iX4 than I expected. If you’re after a scooter that can handle more than perfectly smooth bike lanes, this one deserves attention.

Build Quality and Design​

The iScooter iX4 feels solid straight out of the box. There’s none of that flimsy stem wobble or rattly plastic feeling that cheaper electric scooters often suffer from. The frame feels thick, sturdy and properly built to handle rougher terrain.

Visually, it looks quite aggressive for a scooter in this category. The large off-road tyres, chunky suspension and wide deck give it more of an adventure scooter appearance rather than a sleek urban commuter. Personally, I liked the design. It feels purposeful without looking ridiculous.

The folding mechanism worked well during my testing, although it’s not exactly quick or elegant. Once folded, the scooter is still fairly bulky and heavy. Carrying it upstairs or lifting it into a car boot definitely takes effort.

I also noticed the handlebars felt slightly narrow for a scooter capable of higher speeds. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, but wider bars would’ve improved control even more during aggressive riding.

Overall though, the construction feels far more premium than many similarly priced scooters I’ve tested recently.

Motor Performance​

The 800W motor gives the iX4 more power than most casual riders will realistically need for commuting.

Acceleration feels strong without becoming uncontrollable. Pulling away from traffic lights was quick enough to comfortably stay ahead of city traffic, and hills that usually slow smaller scooters barely affected it. I tested it on a few steep inclines near my area, and the iX4 climbed them far better than expected.

What I appreciated most was the balance between power and control. Some powerful scooters feel twitchy or overly sensitive on the throttle. The iX4 felt much smoother and easier to manage, especially at lower speeds.

Top speed felt genuinely fast in real-world riding. I won’t pretend it’s as wild as some high-end dual-motor scooters, but for most people, it’s more than enough. Riding at full speed on rough surfaces still felt stable, which gave me more confidence than I expected.

One small criticism is that the throttle response can occasionally feel slightly delayed when accelerating from a complete stop. Not dangerous — just something I noticed during stop-start traffic.

Battery and Range​

Battery performance ended up being pretty respectable considering the scooter’s weight and power.

During my testing, I averaged around 40-50 kilometres per charge using mixed riding modes. That included some off-road sections, hills and a decent amount of full-throttle riding. If you ride more conservatively on smoother roads, you’ll probably get slightly more range.

The battery drained noticeably faster during aggressive off-road riding, especially on loose gravel and dirt climbs. That’s completely normal, but it’s worth keeping expectations realistic if you plan to ride hard all the time.

Charging took roughly seven hours from nearly empty to full. Not especially quick, but manageable overnight.

I liked how consistent the power delivery remained even when the battery level dropped lower. Some scooters start feeling sluggish below 30%, but the iX4 stayed reasonably strong throughout most of the charge cycle.

The battery display, however, wasn’t always perfectly accurate. I noticed the final bar disappearing fairly quickly during longer rides, which made range prediction slightly less reliable near empty.

Comfort and Handling​

This is probably where the iX4 impressed me the most.

The suspension setup genuinely makes rough roads far more manageable. I rode over cracked pavement, potholes, gravel and uneven dirt trails, and the scooter handled all of it far better than typical commuter scooters. The large off-road tyres help absorb impacts nicely too.

The wide deck gives you plenty of space to position your feet comfortably during longer rides. I never felt cramped, even after riding continuously for nearly an hour.

Handling feels stable overall, especially at medium and higher speeds. The scooter tracks confidently through corners and doesn’t feel nervous or unstable on rough surfaces. That said, the weight becomes noticeable during tighter low-speed manoeuvres. It’s not as nimble as lightweight urban scooters.

Braking performance was decent but not exceptional. The brakes worked reliably during testing, although I found myself wanting slightly stronger stopping power during steep downhill sections at higher speeds.

The ride quality overall feels far more comfortable than most scooters in this price range.

Smart Features / App​

The iX4 includes basic smart features, but nothing particularly advanced.

The display is clear and easy to read while riding. Speed, battery level and riding mode were visible even in brighter daylight conditions. I also liked how simple the controls were no confusing menus or overly complicated settings.

There’s app connectivity available, although it felt fairly limited compared to premium scooters. You can adjust some settings and monitor ride information, but don’t expect sophisticated GPS tracking or detailed ride analytics.

Personally, I didn’t care much because the scooter itself was enjoyable enough without relying heavily on tech features. Still, riders expecting polished app integration may find it slightly basic.

The built-in lighting was adequate for visibility, though I’d probably add an extra front light for proper night riding on darker roads.

It’s also a good option for riders who want stronger performance without spending huge money on ultra-premium electric scooters.

I wouldn’t recommend it for people needing something ultra-lightweight or highly portable. The iX4 is simply too bulky for constant carrying or public transport use. But for riders wanting comfort, power and versatility in one package, it strikes a really good balance between commuter practicality and off road capability.

Final Verdict​

After spending real time riding the iScooter iX4, I came away genuinely impressed by how capable and enjoyable it feels across different terrain. It doesn’t just look rugged it actually backs it up with solid suspension, good power and stable handling.

The 800W motor gives it enough performance to stay exciting without becoming intimidating, and the comfort level on rough roads is far better than most commuter-focused scooters I’ve tested.

It’s not perfect. The weight limits portability, the brakes could be stronger, and the app experience feels basic. But none of those issues ruined the overall experience for me.

For riders wanting a tough, versatile electric scooter that can comfortably handle both urban streets and rougher paths, the iX4 is easy to recommend.
